2024 - present

Good Bones is a body of work about having a home.

Good Bones is an ongoing enquiry into what it feels like to have a home, what it is like to come from landed people, or not, who experiences homedness, and who doesn’t.

My exploration touches on both comfort and commodification. It is loving and inclusive, drawing people into conversations about home that can be at once kind and serious because the scent of fresh bread keeps everyone warm. The processes and works are also unavoidably critical and sometimes make fun of real estate agents, as one must, given the circumstances.

You can view my 60-second video work called ‘Ravenous’, or ‘Ravenous’ (captioned).

A facilitated workshop on the theme ‘Everyone Kneads A Home’ is available for programming, offering a fragrant, tactile experience that explores memories, sensations, and ideas of home (with a pinch of equity) through the simple, nourishing act of making bread with strangers.

If you’re near a working oven, you can bake your own home with friends or strangers using the instructions below.

A process and sculptural work called ‘Bread City’ is available for commissioning for your city or town.

Invitations to collaborate and opportunities to speak with more people about homes are very welcome.

Initial works in this series were developed during a creative development residency at The Heritage Collective in Mudurup / Cottesloe, Western Australia, in 2024. The residency also provided opportunities for the participation of the wider community, including seniors. It was generously supported by Curtin Heritage Living, Lotterywest, and the Western Australian Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport.
